Figure 1.1 Final outcome for Gestalt Theory Principle of Order design
"FLOWER"
Arrangement of the word "flower" using found objects of dried flower petals and branches. The human eye tend to look for order in objects and perceive elements as part of a unified group. As in this image, it was created for the viewer to notice the word flower and realise it is using flower petals and branches to arrange the order of the word. |

"Mushroom"
A drawing of mushroom on the mountain with a background of white clouds and blue sky. |
Repetition

Figure 1.3 Final outcome for Repetition design
"Stars Above the Waves" Repeating the elements of lines to create a pattern of shooting stars and ocean waves. The illustration is about the flickering shooting stars at the night of the ocean and the calm waves in the blue sea. |
Balance

"The Great Ocean"
Asymmetrical balance design- Inspired by the scenery of the ocean surrounding by the mountain and grasses. There is blue sky with white clouds above the green mountain and blue ocean. The mountain is full of grass and green plants surrounding the ocean. The ocean is calm only with a little of waves. |

"Sunset Gradient"
The image used is taken by me during the time of sunset, it shows the silhouettes of buildings with the gradient of sky when the sun is setting. The repetition of the word sunset have a lower opacity below to indicate the gradient of the sky when the sun is setting down.
Project 1: Self Portrait
- To draw a self-portrait while including design principles inside the artwork design.
 |
| Figure 2.1 Final Outcome of Self Portrait |
The final outcome of my self portrait is from my last digital sketch #5, featuring myself floating in the sky between day and night, the moon represent the night and the clouds representing the day.
The design principle that i used in this artwork is Movement.
Being a night owl, I often stay awake in the midnight and the moon is always there, it listens to my worries and accompany me during my sleepless nights. I love to look at the sky, looking at the twinkling stars and pretty clouds in the sky always make me feel good.
The stars or stardust under my legs brings me to the sky, letting me to float above the sky. The butterflies brings my worries from my heart and flies to the moon. The flowing hair having a colourful pastel colour indicates that I can sleep peacefully and have a sweet dream with less worries in my sleep.
I added some of my physical feature that I think could represent me in this self portrait which is my 6 piercings and me wearing a pair of whale tail earring, my flower necklace and my pair of olive green shoe.
Project 2: Sense of Place
- To express a place, can be a physical place, a place in your mind, a place where you want to be, etc. Expressing the sense of the place that you feel being in that location.

Figure 3.1 Final outcome - "haven - sense of place"
Design Principles included of Harmony, Gestalt theory, Contrast inside the artwork. Sense of Place - having sense of dreamy, carefree, freedom. Background of the artwork is in the time of dawn, and to me dawn is the change between day and night, the transition of the sky from light to dark. It can be really colourful but disappear quickly when darken to night time. The girl wearing a red dress can represent me in the place or just a fairy flying above the sky and flowers, carrying a bag of stardust, trying to decorate and brighten up the sky by putting up stars beside the moon. The name of the flowers in the artwork are Anemone and Dandelions, which are two of my favourite flowers. I named this artwork "haven" its because I want my sense of place to be a safe place that gives calmness to me. I would like to be in a place like the whale with the sea and the flowers in dawn sky, having a sense of dreamy vibe, sense of carefree and freedom. To feel like I am living in a fairy tale, in the world of a planet of whale and flowers exists with beautiful sky and my work is to brighten up the sky using the stardust that I've collected from the flower.
Project 3: Visual Analysis - To create an artwork within the theme of reduced inequality after analysis a chosen artwork.
 | | Figure 4.1 Final outcome for Final Project - Visual Analysis |
The final outcome of the artwork is expressing the message of reduced inequality of wealth and animal inequality.
There is a contrast between the one who live on the left side and the one who live on the right side. For the left side of the drawing, it emphasised a white chubby cat on the slide and a hand with the cat food on the floor. It indicates that people with wealth can afford for a live without working really hard and the cat who lives as a pet can also live a good live without worrying about the food everyday.
While on the right side, it shows a skinny cat walking upwards to the stairs while being in a dark and dirty alley. The skinny cat is black in colour because there is a saying that black cat brings misfortune and is associated with unlucky or evil and it is actually not true. It indicates that the one who were born in a poor family will have to work harder to get their food and basic needs. The hand providing the fish bone is representing the individual living in the poor family who can only gives what he have to the stray animal.
The stairway is in curve shape because I wanted to put the S curve shape to represent the money sign. It is the money and the wealth that divides them to have to live a different lives and the one who were born in the wealthy family can live without less worries while the one who were born poor will have to work hard to find it's food everyday and it will be hard to them to even provide things or basic needs to others like their own family.
The inequality of animal is expressed because the stray animal is often abused and not treated with kind but the pet animal is treated with extra care and living a good live which I portrayed them in the contrast of the artwork in the left side and right side of the artwork.
Reflection
I explored the ideas inside my head and converted them in the form of artwork through all of the exercises and projects. While doing the project 2: self-portrait, I get to think about myself and did a mind map about myself before starting the draft and completing the artwork. I think I had express myself quite good throughout doing the projects in the module. I learned to do some visual research before going into making drafts and doing the final outcome. I find inspirations that helps me and inspire me in my artwork. I think what I have learned the most in this module is the design principles that have thought us since the beginning of the module. I will always try to identify the design principles that I used in my artwork or other people's artwork. Because this is an online class for the module, one thing that I wish is that we could have physical class for the module, so that we could see each other works in class and discuss them together. Nevertheless, I enjoy doing all the exercises and projects in this module. It's fun to think of the idea of what to draw and the process of drawing and creating is also good.
