Choosing and Breaking down the recipe

I've chosen to make the infographic poster about this meat filling ravioli that I discovered from Pasta Grannies youtube channel.

After studying about the video, I breakdown recipe by listing out the ingredient needed for making the meat filling, meat sauce and pasta. I've also chunk the preparation and cooking process into steps.

Draft Poster

I've removed the background drawing below because it makes the font looks unclear and replaced it with a yellow background. Adjusted some of the placement and refinement the assets. From the second draft, I made the last step, no.10 bigger and enlarged the elements as the final version of the Instructable Infographic Poster submission below.

Seperating Assets into Layers

Figure 4.1 Seperating Layers ready for animtion (Week 7, 23/2/2023)

I seperate the layers from using the assets in the Instructable Poster and added in subtitles when needed. After seperating the layers, I move on exporting the layers to After Effect for the animation.

Draft Animation

Figure 4.2 Draft Animation (Week 7, 25/2/2023)

After sending the draft animation to Mr.Hafiz and Mr.Martin, I've made some of the changes to the animation according to the feedback given.

Changes made:
Reduces type of font used in first frame, added in the missing asset of the beef and pork mince and quantity indication of ingredient, adjusted the transitions for the overlapping frames, Adjust timing so that the animation does not seem too rush and align the timing for the ingredient and text to appear together.

FEEDBACK

Instructable Poster
-

Mr. Hafiz told me to focus on conveying information before moving on deciding the layout of the poster. The first draft poster bottom background seems unclear and used up more space than needed. He commented to save the space and enlarge the infographics and emphasize the important information.

The second draft looks better but the instructions could be bigger.

Feedback for the draft animation

From Mr. Martin:
- Long text at the caption is hard to read
- Pay attention to overlapping during transition from one frame to another
- Video timing seems rush, but should fix the problems mentioned above first

From Mr.Hafiz:
- Too much fonts used in the first frame
- Words and ingredient should appear at the same time
- No quantity indicated for the amount of veges needed to be fry
- Timing too brief and hectic

REFLECTION

Doing the recipe infographic is actually really fun, It makes me want to try to make the ravioli myself when this semester ends. Transfering the assets from the instructable poster to different layers for animation actually took more longer that I thought it would be.

I've learnt that I should organize and name my layers in the beginning when doing the illustrations not adjusting them one by one after everything was done. I was more familiar with using After Effects in doing this project and I've also searched for some transition tutorial to follow for doing my draft animation but I did not realised that there was a lot of overlapping when going from one frame to another one.

It was hard for me to refine the animation because when I adjust the timing for one frame, the other frame would also be affected, causing overlap and change in animation. Maybe there is a shortcut in making the layer stays longer while keeping the keyframes at the same place and same pace but I could not figure it out when refining my animation.
