Week 1 Task
-
Personal Burnout Experience
My personal burnout experience - During first semester of degree, there is too much
workload with multiple assignments deadline clash, I struggle with the time management of doing my assignments but inorder to meet the deadlines I have sacrifices my sleep to do the work. Moreover I was working part time on weekends at the same time, in the end I found the balance and did meet all the deadlines of the projects but I was really drained and burnout.

Research & Findings
I've done some research about burnout and compiled them into google docs

Figure 2.2 Script Breakdown & Part Delegation
After we have breakdown the parts of the lyrics and write down some of the
visuals that we think could represent the script, we have decide the part
delegation with random wheel, each person will be in charge with two parts.
Since we plan to not add visuals to part 2 and just animate the text
afterwards, no one is assigned to doing part 2 of the sketches.

Storyboard
Storyboard
Storyboard google drive:
The compilation of the animatics was done late because we used different
canvas size in our initial sketches and some parts need more scene to make the
animation looks not that static.

AI ILLUSTRATIONS
AI ILLUSTRATIONS
Below is the AI Illustration that I've convert from my storyboard sketches for Part 13 & 15.

Final illustration
Here's the final refined illustration that we have used for the animation.
Some of the text does not appears in the pdf file because the text is
added in After Effects in the animation process. Some of the refinement from the initial sketches are done by Gabriela & Xin Ru (Melanie). Gabriela is in charge in part 1-8 and Melanie is in charge with part 9-15 for the illustrations refinement.
Some of them are done by Michelle and me when we were doing the animation like removing extra element or extra frame because of the timing of the animation. We wanted to match the illustrations with the audio and some part don't have enough time for longer animation.

Animation
For the animation, I was in charge to do Part 5-6, Part 9, Part 11 and Part 13-15 and Michelle was in charge with the rest of the parts.
For the animation, I was in charge to do Part 5-6, Part 9, Part 11 and Part 13-15 and Michelle was in charge with the rest of the parts.
Animation process:
Group elements into different layers - refine illustration - animate -
compile Michelle's part and my part together - adjust timing - render and export - refine and fix problem
Some of the illustrations are not ready to animate because the layers were not separated, after double checking the layer, I moved on to exporting the files to After Effects and start doing the animation. I've refined the illustration again after animating because some of the layers is still not separated correctly and to remove some of the elements in the illustration. After Michelle and I were both done with our assigned parts of animation, I download all the AI files that Michelle's has used in her animation and import her animation and my animation to one AE file and adjust the timing and overlap of text.
Because there was still a lot of error while editing the final compiled version, the process of rendering and export became very slow causing my RAM memory to be used up too.

Problems faced while compiling our animation together
Problems faced while compiling our animation together
1) Missing files causing rainbow screen to appear when opening
Michelle's AE file.
Solved it by downloading all AI file and fonts used, right click on one
of the error layer and choose replace footage, replace it with the AI file
download.
2) Low Ram when wanting to refine our compiled animations,
causing the preview not showing even when resolution is set as
quarter. Low memory in my computer and large file of the animation
causing the rendering process to be very slow. Even tooks 30-40
minutes to export the 3min19s animation.
3) Unknown error and After Effects warning
- internal verification failure
- expression error
- unknown exception
If the error or warning does not affect the animation, I just proceed with
the editing and refining process. But the Unknown Exception error shown up
when I was rendering the final version, causing the exporting process to
stop and can't preview the animation.
I solve this problem by searching the answer in the internet and the adobe
after effects forum, solved the problem by
Open Terminal and Type:
sudo atsutil databases - remove
(Enter System Password)
atsudil server - shutdown
atsudil server - ping
Restart computer and reopen After Effects
and it works after I restarted my AE.

FEEDBACK
Week 7
-
-
Draft of Part 13
Animation is too messy, too many things going on at the end, it should
stay at the same scene/background instead of keep changing it.
Week 8
-
Draft of Part 9
-
Draft of Part 9
Composition is messy with too much elements, should have more negative space
in the illustration composition.

The animation looks better now comparing to the one before that is messy
REFLECTION
We faced quite a lot of problems working in a group to produce the animation for this project. From creating sketches to illustrations and refining the illustration to finally doing the animation. Everyone in our group has different ways in doing their work, because of that, some simple work is done more complicated and extra work need to be done to ensure our work is consistent and at least presentable.
I learnt that it is really important to set a requirement in doing a task together and make sure everyone knows what to do so that everyone will follow the same format of doing the work and keep the outcome consistent.
Working in a group of different people really is what makes this project the hardest, especially when group members are unresponsive or always replies late. Another thing about working in a group is the lack of communication or not wanting to communicate and having different expectation on how the final outcome should be. In my opinion, it's the lack of communication and having a different or lower expectation that cause no critical feedback given to each other works that lead to we can't really learn from each other while doing this group project. The task delegation looks reasonable but work assigned to each members is actually not really balanced which I think some of our members might take granted on other members who put more effort in.
I'm still lacking a lot in terms of drawing and animating but doing this project sure helps me learn some animation technique like working with the keyframes, transitions between frames or effect to apply to the animation and also how to work with Adobe After Effects who choose to crash when I was compiling the animation and wanting to export our final version.
