Task 2: Digital Triptych

A triptych is a work of art that is divided into three sections that are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open. It is therefore a type of polyptych, the term for all multi-panel works.

For this project, we are to create three illustrations to depict a scenery of a story based on one of the themes with Adobe Illustrator in the theme of Cultural celebration or Renewal of life

We are also required to submit our digital triptych artwork too the Honor competition at https://www.hihonor.com/honor-talents/en/ as part of the project.

DESIGN PROCESS
-
I choose the theme of Renewal of life and thought of illustrating about the Whale fall.

VISUAL RESEARCH
-

Whale fall: When whales die and sink, their carcasses — known as whale falls — provide a bounty of nutrients for deepwater creatures. (National Ocean Service, 2021)

SKETCH

Figure 2.1 Initial sketch idea

After sketching my idea, I move on to doing digitalization on Adobe Illustration.

Figure 2.2 Digitalization of "Whale fall"

After receiving some feedback from lecturer, I decided to refined the digitalization of the artwork for the submission in the Honor competition. The feedback is to make the middle whale to a bigger size and modify the waves on the left side of the whale.

Figure 2.3 Composition of whale after refining

I changed the waves at the left to dull and withered flowers, adjust the size of the middle whale bigger and redraw the bones of the whale. Lastly, I've also adjust the colour of the whale body in a form of gradient.
